February is Black History Month, a time to not only learn about and celebrate the history of Black people in this country, but also to support Black entrepreneurs and creators who are making a difference today. in February, countless businesses post about their support for the Black community and show their support for worthy initiatives like Black Lives Matter, Fifteen Percent Pledge, Black Progress Matters, and the Southern Poverty Law Center. But Target (open in new tab), a large American department store, has a unique take on Black History Month: each year, it chooses a black-owned brand as its partner and sells the brand's exclusive collection online and in stores. This year, that brand is Jolie Noire.

Jolie Noire was founded by Atlanta-based sisters Keyondra and Kim Lockett with the goal of creating an inclusive clothing brand that would defy the traditional stereotype of blackness being synonymous with negativity. Instead, their brand revolves around the assertion that "black people are beautiful."

The brand itself markets itself as "athleisure for women," but it boasts a surprisingly large selection of clothing that anyone can comfortably wear, regardless of size or gender. Chic and colorful, yet tasteful and minimalist, these items make the perfect gift for yourself or a surprise for a loved one.
