Meghan Markle and Prince Harry "won't be here" for Christmas with the Queen, royal official says

Whether the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will return to the UK for Christmas has been a hot topic of conversation for the past few weeks. But if you were hoping for a big Royal Family reunion, you might want to hold your breath, unfortunately.

Prince Harry may be going to the UK to meet his grandmother, the Queen, amid health issues, but a royal source told Page Six that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been invited to join other family members at Sandringham this Christmas, but will probably not

"The royal family is not expected to attend.

"There is a lot that goes into logistics and family Christmas plans, so of course the staff knows that Harry and Meghan will not be coming," a source told the outlet. 'If they were, they would have told their families by now.'

And I'm sensing just a touch of judgment in this next statement: "But this is Her Majesty's first Christmas without her husband, so it's only natural that she and her husband would want to be with Her Majesty," the source continued.

One theory is that one of the reasons the Sussexes decided to stay in the U.S. for Christmas is because of the unnecessary fuss they would cause if they arrived in England. The source advised, "I think everyone understands that if the two return to the UK, there will be a big fuss, but they need to rip [the band-aid] off and get on with it."

The Sussexes skipped the big family Christmas in 2019, just before they announced their retirement from royal duties, and in 2020 when they were in California. However, a source said at the time that they had planned to connect via zoom last year for the holidays.

While many royal fans will be disappointed by the couple's decision not to attend the family festivities, I can't help but feel relief that they won't have to weigh in on the ancient scales. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
