Kate Middleton borrows fashion tips from the Queen

When it comes to fashion, Kate Middleton never fails. Whether it's a loose-fitting blazer or a sparkling gown reminiscent of Princess Diana, she is always the epitome of elegance. (And while royal experts speculate that her style evolution is evidence that she is preparing to one day assume the duties of the queen, it turns out that, at least in one respect, she is emulating the queen's own style book.

It's been a big week for Kate and Prince William, as they prepare to present the first Earthshot Award to people making a difference in the environment on Sunday night. At one environmentally focused event, Duchess Kate wore a grassy green ensemble that she said looked exactly like Mother Gaia, the same coat she wore to the 2014 event, which was also noted by William as being "a little bright." (We are told. (We're glad to see his cheeky critique didn't dissuade her from wearing it again.)

But these bright color choices are the whole point. The magazine also notes that in the 2016 documentary The Queen at 90, Queen Elizabeth's daughter-in-law, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, explains why the Queen always appears in public wearing bright jewel-like colors, such as the royal blue she wore this weekend She also mentions that it explains why she is able to:

According to Countess Sophie:

"In order for people to say 'I saw the Queen,' the Queen needs to stand out. When the queen appears somewhere, the crowd goes two, three, four, ten, fifteen people deep, and you want someone to be able to say that they saw a bit of the queen's hat as she passed by."

And when Kate Middleton steps into her role as the future of the royal family, she may be doing the same thing in a colorful ensemble. After all, her outfits tend to stand out in a crowd.

Whatever the reason, Kate has proven herself to be the latest fashion icon in a royal family historically full of fashion icons.
