Prince George "delighted" to see dinosaur fossils with Sir David Attenborough

While Prince William and Kate Middleton have made it clear that they are trying to give their children a sense of normalcy despite the intense scrutiny that comes with being royalty growing up (opens in new tab), there are some distinct perks to being part of a family. Like, for example, being shown dinosaur fossils by legendary naturalist and documentarian Sir Richard Attenborough.

In anticipation of the inaugural Earthshot Prize (opens in new tab) - an award that will fund five climate change protection innovators each year through 2030, beginning with an awards ceremony this weekend - Prince William has shared many anecdotes with the press about what environmentalism means to his family Prince William has shared many anecdotes with the press about what environmentalism means to his family. For example, he told a BBC Newscast interviewer that 8-year-old Prince George was bothered by littering. And now he also reported that his eldest son had the opportunity to see Sir David Attenborough's fossil collection.

Attenborough, 95, is best known as the voice of the documentary Planet Earth, a longtime environmental advocate and Earthshot Award panelist. And he is apparently a good fit with the young royal family.

According to "Express UK," William told the BBC of Attenborough, "He was great when he met the kids. He had a lot of dinosaur fossils."

According to the magazine, "The BBC revealed that Lord Attenborough handed Prince George a fossil shark tooth when he visited Kensington Palace in September 2020. The young prince was said to have been fascinated as he was handed the tooth of the now extinct 50-foot-long mega-teeth shark, Carcarocles megalodon."

It is not surprising that children love dinosaurs, but it is always fascinating to hear that even young royals share these universal childhood interests. Earlier this year, Kate Middleton revealed that her children also like airplanes.

And with the news that Prince George is aspiring to be an environmentalist like his father and grandfather, his interest in the natural world is not so surprising.
