Queen confesses to having seen all the James Bond movies.
It's always nice to hear a little tidbit from the Queen that goes beyond her role as monarch. And the latest discovery is particularly fascinating: the queen has reportedly seen all of James Bond's films.
The news comes from royal biographer Giles Brandreth, who has spent time with the 95-year-old monarch and, like us, enjoyed learning about her unexpected interests, according to the Express (opens in new tab). I enjoyed getting to know her. She loved the early James Bond movies.
It is fitting that this came just days after the London premiere of No Time to Die, the fifth and final 007 film starring Daniel Craig. The premiere was particularly notable for the presence of Prince Charles, Camilla, Prince William, and Kate Middleton in gold gowns (open with new tab). The Queen herself has been to several Bond premieres, most recently attending the premiere of "Casino Royale" in 2006. Apparently the whole family loves Bond!
In a way, it makes sense: two of the most British things in existence are undoubtedly the Queen and James Bond. But the franchise is also, in a sense, a nod to Queen Elizabeth's monarchy. The first Bond book, Casino Royale, by Ian Fleming, was published in 1953, the year after Elizabeth II ascended the throne. The first movie was released ten years later, and films were released every few years during Elizabeth II's reign. At the opening ceremony of the London Olympics, directed by Danny Boyle, the Queen "jumped" out of a helicopter with Daniel Craig in a scene reminiscent of James Bond.
Once again: we live for a glimpse behind the curtain.
