Britney Spears' Father Removed from Her Conservatorship

Britney Spears' father, Jamie Spears, has been removed from the conservatorship that has governed various aspects of her life for 13 years (opens in new tab).On September 29, BuzzFeed News reported that Judge Brenda Penney suspended Spears and replaced her with her daughter's choice She appointed John Zabel (opens in new tab).

Outside the courtroom, Matthew Rosengart, Britney Spears' attorney (opens in new tab), said, "It's a great day for justice. She is very happy. We are all very happy" (via People (opens in new tab)).

Initially, Starr's father refused to step down at all (opens in new tab), but eventually agreed to transition to a new conservator (opens in new tab) and then sought to end the conservatorship entirely (opens in new tab).

The singer intended to request termination of the conservatorship, but his father beat him to it. If the arrangement were terminated without transitioning to a new conservatorship, Jamie Spears would not have to hand over his files as conservator to someone else. As it stands, however, he must turn those files over to Zabel. Rosengart seems to think that he wanted to avoid that for some reason. Said Rosengart, "I believe that in these files we will find evidence of his corruption, and more."

On November 12, the court will decide whether to terminate the conservatorship altogether.

Britney Spears posted a video on Instagram (opens in new tab) shortly after the court hearing showing her co-piloting an airplane and a tropical landscape. She wrote in that post, "On cloud 9 right now !!!! First time on a plane and first time in a prop plane !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was scary!!!!" She added the caption! Pssst, bring the ship home, JL .... Beautiful people, stay classy, new pics coming soon!!!!"
