Gordon Ramsay says Princess Diana was "one of the most elegant members of the British royal family."
Gordon Ramsay doesn't usually have a lot of nice things to say about people to get them talking (unless you like being called a "stupid sandwich (opens in new tab)," but to each his own, I guess). But when it comes to Princess Diana (opens in new tab), the famously honest chef has nothing bad to say.
Ramsay is currently Gordon, Gino, and Fred Go Greek! TV show, and according to Delish (opens in new tab), Gino D'Acampo asked others (ugh, TFTI, guys) about the "best dish they've ever eaten or made" while watching the sunset in Santorini (opens in new tab).
Ramsey replied. Suggesting that Princess Diana was the most beloved royalty, just as Santorini is the best Greek island, he added:" In other words, here is Santorini, the famous supermodel of small islands, and she was by far one of the most gracious members of the royal family (open in new tab) that I have ever met."
Ramsay does not seem to be a royal hater (pictured below befriending Prince William (open in new tab) at the 2004 charity race), but she did have a bit of a curt exchange with the Queen (open in new tab) when receiving her OBE honors.
Stephen Colbert (opens in new tab) once asked him if it was a "sword situation," to which Ramsay replied, "No, it's when I receive my knighthood," since the OBE is sort of beneath it, a bit like a handshake, then a polite " f**k off," he replied. Laughter ensues. Ramsey joked, "And I'll tell you what, I'll tell you what, I'll tell you what, I'll tell you what. Laughter
As for Princess Diana, Ramsay further described what it was like to cook for her in a 2016 interview with the Daily Mail (opens in new tab). Referring to a restaurant in Chelsea, London, that he built in the '90s, he said. 'When she came in, she was very normal. There was no pretense, the security guard was outside, she ate off the lunch menu and didn't go a la carte. It was a pressed leek terrine, I think, and the main dish was sea bass."[11
