Sam Asgari Discusses New Britney Spears Documentary
Sam Asgari has been tight-lipped about his relationship with Britney Spears (aside from accidentally leaking the engagement ring (opens in new tab) he planned to give her the day before he proposed). But now that he and the pop star are getting married, he is breaking his silence on certain things.
On September 24, just hours before the premiere of "Controlling Britney Spears," the sequel to the documentary "Framing Britney Spears," which The New York Times reported in February, Asgari posted on Instagram Stories on his Instagram Stories. He opened up about what the documentary is doing to him and his soon-to-be wife, and Billboard (opens in new tab) obtained the full commentary and quotes Asgari as saying: [Previous documentaries have been an afterthought. I hope the upcoming doc is respectful, and I don't blame CNN, BBC, or Netflix (which escaped lockdown). I question the producers who created them 'just to shed light' without the input or approval of the subject. Credit should be given to #freebritney for shining the light on her."
Asgari was referring to both the New York Times documentary, the BBC film released earlier this year, The Battle for Britney Spears: Cash, Fans, and Custody, and the upcoming Netflix film Britney vs. Spears" (opens in new tab), and the recently released CNN documentary "Toxic: Britney's Battle for Freedom." This is... . a lot of unauthorized documentaries.
His message is a good reminder that while conservatorship generates a lot of well-meaning concern from Britney's fans, her mental well-being is also a very private matter, and intense media scrutiny is likely not to help. For only Britney knows what is really going on in her private life.
