Kate Middleton "competes" with tennis champion Emma Raducanu.
Kate Middleton is a big fan of tennis champion Emma Raducanu and finally got to not only meet her, but play with and against her.
The Duchess donned a tennis jacket and skirt (opens in new tab) and headed to the National Tennis Centre in London for the Lawn Tennis Association's homecoming event, according to the Daily Mail (opens in new tab). The event was to celebrate the homecoming of the British US Open Champion. Emma Raducanu won the US Open women's singles title, becoming the first British woman to win a Grand Slam singles title since 1977.
The Royals played doubles with Raducanu against her. According to the Mirror, it was "competitive" on the court. While it is clear that Middleton is a talented tennis player, one would hope that she is not as competitive, given the level of her opponents.
Middleton (open in new tab) also chatted with the players and made the obligatory COVID small talk. 'I don't want to burst your training bubble,' she said. 'It's really awkward and I don't know if I can do it. 'Same with the face masks. I don't know if I should hug you, congratulate you, or shake your hand. But I really congratulate you guys.
When Raducanu stunned the world by winning the US Open, Middleton tweeted (open in new tab): "@EmmaRaducanu, congratulations on your stunning performance and historic Grand Slam win! Incredible. Thank you Leila Fernandez for your amazing performance at this year's #USOpen. c"
