Britney Spears Deletes Instagram Account After Announcing Engagement

Britney Spears has been blessing us with Instagram content (opens in new tab) on a super regular basis lately, but we won't be hearing much from her for a while. Spears deleted her Instagram account shortly after announcing her engagement (opens in new tab) to her boyfriend of five years, Sam Asgari (opens in new tab).

The star explained her decision on Twitter (opens in new tab) so as not to cause a wave of panic among her many fans. 'Don't worry folks, ...... I'm just taking a little break from social media to celebrate my engagement! I'll be right back,' she wrote. Phew.

A source told People (opens in new tab) of Spears' decision, "She's taking a break, like many celebrities do. It is her decision and nothing else should be read into it. She is in a great place legally and personally," he added.

In one of her last posts before closing her account, Spears posted a screenshot of an article titled "Infusing education with heart," referring to the current status of her conservatorship.

"I grew up in a world where basically almost everything I did was controlled by someone else.... I hope this message reaches those who are being confused or manipulated by the system!!!" she wrote (via Entertainment Weekly (opens in new tab))." No. ...... You are not alone and no ...... You are not crazy !!!! Everyone needs to hear this before it's too late: !!!! I have waited 13 years for my freedom.

This was after her father, Jamie Spears (opens in new tab), filed a surprise action (opens in new tab) to end his daughter's 13-year conservatorship. Until he did so, it was difficult (or perhaps impossible) for Spears and Asgari (opens in new tab) to become engaged.
