Britney Spears' Lawyer Says He Is "Actively" Working to Remove Jamie Spears from Conservatorship
Britney Spears' new attorney, former federal prosecutor Matthew Rosengart, said he is moving "aggressively and quickly" to remove Jamie Spears from conservatorship of her daughter. At a court hearing last week, Judge Brenda Penney gave Spears permission to choose her own attorney (opens in new tab).
"Once again, I want to thank Britney Spears for her courage and strength," Rosengart told reporters on Monday, July 19, according to the Independent (opens in new tab). 'I want to thank Judge Penny for her courtesy in welcoming me and my office into this trial. I also want to thank the fans and supporters of Britney Spears. The support for my office, myself, and most importantly, for Britney has been truly overwhelming."

"My office and I are moving aggressively and quickly to file a dismissal petition unless Jamie Spears resigns first," Rosengart concluded.
At a hearing last week, Spears told Judge Penny, "I am here to remove my father and charge him with conservatorship abuse." He asked for a restraining order against his father and to open an investigation, adding, "I have always been extremely afraid of my father."
Rosengart last week asked that Jamie Spears be removed as conservator of his daughter. He said, "I really wonder why Mr. Spears is not voluntarily stepping aside today. Today. Does anyone really believe that Mr. Spears' involvement in this matter is in Mr. Spears' best interest?
Mr. Jamie Spears' attorney, Vivian Soreen, said her client would not voluntarily recuse himself. 'Mr. Spears has been involved from day one. He is there for his daughter 24/7. ...... He loves his daughter and wants only the best for her," said Soreen, adding that "many of her characteristics and memories are wrong."
