Naomi Osaka, Inspired by Haiti and Japan, Met Gala Look

The red carpet for the 2021 Met Gala is in full swing, with stars descending on New York in their most eye-catching looks. Tennis pro, mental health advocate, and fashion darling Naomi Osaka serves as one of the co-chairs of the evening. Her colorful outfit, a Louis Vuitton dress co-designed with her sister Mari Osaka (opens in new tab), draws inspiration from her Japanese and Haitian heritage.

Osaka's dress featured a floral midi-length skirt, exaggerated ruffled sleeves, and a red bow at the waist. She accessorized with simple black open-toe booties. Her hair was styled in a braided updo. Her makeup consisted of a red halo around her eyes and cheekbones, glowing skin, and berry tones on her lips. [For me, Americana means a mix of all cultures, and this dress and look kind of represents my two backgrounds, Haiti and Japan.

Tonight, Osaka will attend the Met Gala for the first time and play a major role. Fresh off back-to-back matches at the U.S. Open, Osaka joins co-hosts Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, and Amanda Gorman (opens in new tab). She was the last of the four hosts to hit the carpet, and she definitely made a spectacular appearance.
