Octavia Spencer tells Britney Spears to have a prenup after her engagement to Sam Asgari
Octavia Spencer is brutally honest. After Britney Spears and her boyfriend of five years, Sam Asgari, announced their engagement (opens in new tab) via Instagram (opens in new tab) on September 12, Spencer simply commented, "Make them sign a prenup." As of this writing, the actress's comment has received 18,000 likes, both from those who agree with the sentiment and those who are enamored with her uninhibited attitude from both those who agree with the sentiment and those who are enamored with her uninhibited attitude.
The comments were reposted by the Instagram account @commentsbycelebs (opens in new tab), where people weighed in on Spencer's "sage advice" for Spears. While some commenters thought the timing of the comment was a bit off, most seemed to feel it needed to be said anyway. SKKSKS HELP," wrote content creator Peyton Dix. 'Octavia said it, but we all thought it. 'Women care about women,' another fan commented, adding an emoji of applause."
Spears has lived under conservatorship (open in new tab) for 13 years, with her father, Jamie Spears, managing her finances and other matters. Last week, in a surprise U-turn, the star's father filed to end his daughter's conservatorship (open in new tab) once and for all.
"Ms. Spears has told this court that she wants to regain control of her life without the safety rails of conservatorship. She wants to be able to decide when, where, and how often she will seek therapy and make decisions regarding her medical care." She wants to control the money she earns in her career and spend it without supervision or oversight. She wants to be able to marry and have children at her own will. In short, she wants to live her life the way she wants to, without being bound by conservatorship or court procedures.
In other words, it seems that Spears' conservatorship made it difficult, or perhaps impossible, for her to take her relationship with Asgari to the next level (Forbes (open in new tab) reported in 2019 that Spears could not have married her father without his permission). And since the singer will soon regain financial control, it is assumed that Spencer's comments were aimed at ensuring that she maintains this control that she has been denied for so long.
But despite Spencer's pessimism (or realism, depending on where you stand), Spears seemed happy to finally take the next step with her lover; in a statement to People (opens in new tab), Asgari's manager, Brandon Cohen, "They officially announced their longtime relationship today and are deeply touched by the support, dedication, and love expressed to them."
Spears was previously married to Kevin Federline from 2004 to 2006, and together they share two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden, according to Us Weekly (opens in new tab).
