Harry and Meghan Clip Reportedly Booed at British Awards Show

This week, the National Television Awards (basically the British Emmys) took place, filmed in London's massive 20,000-seat O2 Arena and broadcast live on ITV. What viewers at home did not see, however, was a moment involving footage of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle that shocked some viewers.

Although the royal family did not attend the lavish awards (there is speculation that Oprah's itinerary this year will be to attend the Emmy Awards (open in new tab) in the United States), their presence was very significant. A video of his interview with the two infamous Oprah Winfrey was aired during a program summarizing some of the biggest moments in TV this year. However, according to the Daily Mail (opens in new tab), those watching the TV coverage had no way of knowing what was going on in the stadium: when Harry and Meghan appeared on screen, the crowd began booing.

According to two sources, one of whom is described by the Mail as "a celebrity who asked not to be named," the site reports that there were wild shouts directed at the two images from the crowd. 'Some people were yelling and laughing,' the site said. There were a few embarrassed faces, but sadly, Princess Meghan was clearly not popular that night."

Another source, said to be someone who was in the audience at the NTA show, said that when the video was shown, "Immediately, the entire arena booed. It was like a pantomime villain."

Earlier this year, Harry and Meghan's interview with Oprah (opens in new tab) in which they revealed allegations of racism, infighting, and family tension regarding Meghan's role in the royal family sparked controversy and talk around the world. According to an article in the Daily Mail, the NTA booing incident reveals Harry and Meghan's waning popularity in the U.K., and the two remain a source of controversy throughout the country. In the U.S., however, the two remain rather beloved, and it seems unlikely that their attendance at the Emmys (if it does happen) will be met with any kind of intense criticism.

And even if some people don't like what this interview reveals, Prince Harry reportedly does not regret his participation in this interview (open in new tab) one bit.
