Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac's red carpet chemistry is Next Level
The phrase "Twitter is not OK" may be terribly overused, but in the aftermath of Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac's September 4 appearance on the red carpet (opens in new tab), it is safe to say that Twitter really, really was not OK! I think.
The supremely sultry clip (opens in new tab) of the co-stars interacting at the Venice Film Festival sent users into a tizzy. Isaacs put his mouth on Chastain's arm for a long time, then she put her head on his shoulder and he wrapped his arms around her even tighter. Oof.
One Twitter user (opens in new tab) wrote, "The way Oscar Isaac looks at Jessica Chastain ...... I would just faint," she wrote. Journalist Nola Ojomu (opens in new tab) wrote, "God bless whoever put this video of Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain in Venice in slow motion. The gentle stroking of arms, the raising of eyebrows... . gives us the red carpet chemistry we didn't even know we needed."
[6Film editor Hannah Strong commented, "It's an interesting choice to award the Golden Lion to the slow-motion Getty Images image of Oscar Isaac kissing Jessica Chastain's arm, but we want to honor it."
Now, I must tell you that Chastain and Isaac are not actually a couple. In fact, Isaac is married to filmmaker Elvira Lindo (opens in new tab), and Chastain is married to Italian aristocrat and fashion mogul Jean Luca Passi de Preposulo (opens in new tab) The two actors are promoting their new TV show, " Scenes From a Marriage," and were in Venice to promote it.
"Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain are actors trying to get people to watch their HBO show [laughs]," said writer Carrie Whitmer (opens in new tab). "We're glued to that image of Oscar Isaac fawning over Jessica Chastain: ...... As a society, we are starved for on-screen sexual tension," someone else wrote (opens in new tab).
Yet another user (opens in new tab) suggested, "Anyone convinced that Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain must be doing something shows that we need to bring back romance movies and the compatibility test. Back in the day, stars used to have chemistry, and they used to do promos and put on shows!"
In other words, this is what it was all about: two actors, married but not in love with each other, doing shows for us. I am grateful to them.
