Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton's reconciliation is "wishful thinking," says royal expert
Many royal fans hope that the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex will become the best of friends, but according to Omid Scobie, author of Finding Freedom (opens in new tab), one of the most trusted royal experts of the moment, we should not hold our breath!
"The Mere Old Man" is a "very good example.
"I think it's wishful thinking to see Meghan and Kate working on a Netflix project together (opens in new tab) or talking on the phone," Scobie told Entertainment Tonight (opens in new tab). 'I also read an article recently that said they were zooming around (opens in new tab) making cakes.'
See, I wanted to believe those stories as much as the next girl, but Scobie is unwaveringly skeptical, and it's hard to deny that his reasoning makes sense. 'Unfortunately, they're following the lead set by the brothers,' he told ET. 'The brothers are not speaking and there is not the slightest communication with either side. There was no feud between the Duke and Duchess, but there was a distance. They could not get as close as possible (open in new tab)"
.
Unfortunately, however, when it came to choosing between her husband or her sister-in-law, it is not surprising that each duchess chose her husband.
Scobie also explained that there was always an imbalance of power between the Cambridges and the Sussexes, meaning that they were never the delightful millennial royal foursome that people expected. The Fab Four were always doomed to failure. 'These four were not the kind of family members who were all on the same level and worked together. It was a Diana Ross and the Supremes kind of situation."
According to Scobie, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were unhappy with their position within the royal family, which was one reason they felt compelled to leave. They wanted to do what the Cambridges did. They wanted to be front and center, just like William and Kate. Of course, the public wanted that, but the royal establishment quickly reminds you that you are in that position." Harry is sixth in line to the throne and must always carry out his work with that in mind. It means that he must not hide behind his brother."
As anyone who has a brother knows, it is not an easy or pleasant position, heir to the throne or not.
