Kate Middleton will no longer receive this honor on her birthday.

The Royal Family keeps so many traditions alive that sometimes it's hard to keep up. Now, one of these traditions is changing a bit: the Westminster Abbey bells, usually rung on the birthdays of senior royals including Kate Middleton (opens in new tab) and Camilla Parker-Bowles, will now be rung in a more spartan manner (opens in new tab).

Hello! (opens in new tab) reports that the Westminster Abbey, where Kate Middleton and Prince William were married, has not rung its bells since April 2020 due to the pandemic. The bell ringing will resume in September, but the birthdays of Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and their children George (opens in new tab), Charlotte (opens in new tab), and Louis (opens in new tab) There are no more.

"The bells of Westminster Abbey can be heard ringing before services and when celebrating church festivals," a representative of Westminster Abbey told the outlet. 'The bells have traditionally been rung to celebrate the birthdays of senior members of the royal family. Due to the financial difficulties caused to the Abbey by the Covid 19 pandemic, and as a result of discussions with Buckingham Palace, the bells will now only be rung on the birthdays of Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales."

To be fair, ringing the bells for that many people may have been a bit of a headache to begin with; on January 9, 2022 (opens in new tab), Kate Middleton will quietly celebrate her 40th birthday. Perhaps she will take a cue from her sister-in-law Meghan Markle and use the occasion to start a charity drive (opens in new tab).
