Meghan Markle and Prince Harry likely won't give Christ to Lilibet in the UK after all.
Since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry relinquished their senior royal posts in early 2020 (opens in new tab), they have been the subject of much speculation, including the christening of baby Lilibet "Lilli" Mountbatten-Windsor. back in July, royal experts said the event Windsor (open in new tab), where the Sussexes were married (open in new tab), and imagined that it would take place in the presence of the Queen (open in new tab).
Now, however, another royal commentator has put forward another theory. Richard Fitzwilliams told the Express (opens in new tab) that "Harry and Meghan's relationship with the British press was badly damaged by Archie's internal baptism and the fact that his godfather's name was never made public."
To avoid further controversy, Fitzwilliams believes that the Duke and Duchess will forgo a baptism in England for their second child and instead hold the ceremony closer to home. Fitzwilliams told the magazine, "There were rumors of a baptism in Windsor, but it will most likely take place in California."
He added, "It seems certain that her baptism will take place in Princess Meghan's hometown, in secret, but without the controversy that surrounded Archie's baptism (opens in new tab). We have no idea when the Queen and other members of the royal family will meet Lili, or when Harry and Meghan will next visit the UK."
None of this is definite, of course, and it remains to be seen where Lili's christening will actually take place. What is certain is that her parents, as is their prerogative, will proceed with their usual discretion. Until then, please enjoy this (very blurry) photo (opens in new tab) of the youngest member of the Sussex family, courtesy of her mother. You're welcome.
