Spoilers for Katie Thurston's "Bachelorette" Season: What We Know
A season, or should we say seasons, of the Bachelorette, with Katie Thurston (opens in new tab) becoming the first of two Bachelorettes in 2021, followed in the fall by fellow Matt James contestant Michelle Young (opens in new tab) Following, Katie, who first aired on June 7, 2021, and whose final episode will air on August 9, will be remembered as the outspoken speaker who wasn't afraid to put the other girls on the spot, and the hilarious girl who brought a vibrator to meet Matt on the first night. If you came here wondering if Katie was engaged or craving spoilers, you've come to the right place.
First, some background: Thurston's season came at a turbulent time for the Bachelor franchise. As the first black Bachelor, Matt James' season was supposed to be historic, but instead it was ruined by the bullying and later racist social media activity of James' winner, Rachel Kirkconnell. (The two broke up, but now appear to be back together (open in new tab)). Chris Harrison appeared on Extra to defend Kirkconnell's actions and tried to explain the situation to former Bachelorette and black woman Rachel Lindsay. (Lindsay has now said she is stepping down from the franchise altogether (opens in new tab). Harrison has been suspended as a host (opens in new tab), so he is not appearing on Thurston's season--her hosts are former Bachelorettes Tayshia Adams and Caitlin Bristowe, who are also not on Bachelor in Paradise. The day after Thurston's season began airing, ABC confirmed that Harrison would not be returning to the franchise.
Ahead, everything you wanted to know about Katie Thurston's season, from start to finish. Spoilers, of course. [Did Katie find the man of her dreams in her season and get engaged to him?
Yes, she did. Reality Steve says, "Katie definitely got engaged (open in new tab). And unless she breaks up with him before the finale, which I don't think will happen, she is happy and engaged as we speak.
Reality Steve's predictions for the end of the season are usually, though not always, correct. But even otherwise, we know that filming ended a week ahead of schedule. Of course, we don't know why, but it may be that Thurston was confident in his decision and didn't want to waste time.
Katie revealed to "The Hollywood Reporter" (opens in new tab): (opens in new tab) "I found love more than once. Through it all, everything has a reason, and I'm happy."
[12And even if Katie does get engaged (more on who she gets engaged to later), the end result ...... could be messy. 'It's going to be crazy at the end. It's not traditional at all. I'm like, "What the hell is going on?" I'm like, "I don't know. Katie said on Nick Viall's podcast. She also said she was "heartbroken. "Speaking to Us, she said: "I don't think I've ever had anything like this before. She says: "I don't think I've ever had anything like this before. So it's certainly a first for me. And it's a shocking ending."
Reality Steve says: (open in new tab) "I know who she'll end up with, but how she gets there is another story. It's going to be pretty tricky."
An even bigger question. Her final four
Ario self-withdrew to be with her son, and Grippo dramatically stormed off after a meltdown that many Bachelor fans and Katie herself described as "gaslighting" (open in new tab). As a result, Justin and Blake were the last two Katie had left.
And according to Reality Steve, the winners of Katie's Bachelorette season were.
Moines, of course, was a contestant from the previous season of The Bachelorette, attracted first by Claire Crawley and then by Tayshia Adams. You will remember that Crawley left her own season to be with Dale Moss, Moines was heartbroken, and eventually Adams dumped him as well. In other words, Moines got engaged to Katie (and did.
The Bachelor Nation has also questioned Moines' intentions. Nick Viall spoke about the Bachelor on the Us Weekly podcast: "Blake is obviously going to get flack because he fell in love with Claire, he fell in love with Taysha, and he didn't give any validation. So when he says he's 'in love with Katie,' it's natural to question it."
One thing is certain: Thurston and Moines have been in touch since before the season. 'He's also Taysha's ex-boyfriend. So it's weird," Thurston told Us Weekly. 'But usually the guys contact the women who have been eliminated and say, "Good luck, you did a great job." So I meet him and I'm like, 'Why is he here? What's going on?'"
She elaborated further on her podcast, Chicks in the Office (opens in new tab). "After the season with Matt, everyone [Blake and I] were very close before. But she was still upset when he showed up, she added. 'It was a shock,' she said. I wasn't expecting it at all."
As for Moines, she said of the exchange: "When she came out of the limo with the vibrator, I thought, 'Oh, I like her.' I simply reached out to her," he told Us Weekly. It was, "I really liked what you did for me. When I first reached out to her after the first episode, her response was very cold. She was nice, but did not engage in any dialogue. I was terminated on the spot."
Michael Ario stayed in the final four but self-eliminated to be with his son. (Opens in new tab) (Michael told People (opens in new tab): "I have to think about what it would be like to get engaged on such short notice and introduce someone to my son. I don't agree with that idea.")
Reality Steve is convinced that Katie is happily engaged to Blake, but hints that things may not be completely over between Michael and Katie: "In late July, he made a very thirsty comment on a lingerie photo that Katie had posted I left it." Can't say what I'd like to," he wrote, accompanied by an embarrassing emoji and two flame emojis. He then quickly deleted the comment. Additionally, Ben Higgins told (opens in new tab)E: (opens in new tab): "I think (Michael) would have been 'the one' if he was around." "At the end of all this, if it doesn't end with one true love like she is talking about, I think they are going to try."
Katie is apparently not single: she tweeted: on July 30, she tweeted, "Woke up this morning and realized I used toy cleaner instead of lotion last night."
During the overnight dating portion of the season, Grippo transformed into a late-round villain. A few weeks earlier, on Viol's podcast, Katie had hinted that there would be another villain at the end of the show: "I tried to get rid of the villain. I tried to get rid of the villain." She said, "Boom, boom, go," and then they'd reappear.
After the episode aired, Katie wrote on Twitter: "Thanks for the virtual hug tonight." Katie also shared a guide to gaslighting on her Instagram Stories, implying that she and many Bachelor nationals believe that's what Grippo was doing:
Other Bachelor alumni also weighed in on the fight between Grippo and Thurston expressed their opinions (open in new tab). Bekah Martinez of Allie's season wrote, "I know he opened up to her and she said the "wrong thing," but to shut her down emotionally and punish her with silence as if to say "nothing is wrong, why do you think so?" is emotional manipulation 101."
The men in Katie's season disagreed. Andrew Spencer, who was on Katie's season, wrote on Twitter: 'The most important thing is that I hope they work it out. John Hershey wrote on Instagram: "I think it's a very unhealthy and misguided step in the wrong direction to see this kind of behavior being defended (i.e. normalized). And Conor Brennan writes: "There was no gaslighting in this episode.
Co-host Caitlin Bristow had some strong words about Grippo's demotion. On the Clickbait podcast she said: he just wanted to quit before he was fired. I think his ego was so bruised at that moment that he was like, 'I'm going to turn this shit around and get out of here.'" And as for Grippo's acting career, which has sparked controversy (open in new tab) among Bachelor Nation, her co-host Taysia Adams said, "It will be addressed. So wait and see."
According to an ABC press release, Adams is talking about "After the Final Rose," which will feature a "tense confrontation" between Gregg and Katie. In the teaser, Katie tells him, "I don't think you know what love is." [It's going to be an explosive confrontation. Maddy Prewett, who was on Peter's season after Greg's departure, wrote in a seemingly unrelated tweet: "When your heart is broken, don't trust your tongue. Keep quiet until your wounds heal," she wrote, to which Katie replied on Twitter: "You should have read this before AFTR," Katie replied on Twitter, with a sideways glance and an emoji.
