Some dresses are dreamy, and some are Jennifer Hudson's red carpet look at the premiere of her movie "Respect," in which she plays Aretha Franklin. The actress and singer wore a dazzling purple sequin dress by Dolce & Gabbana to the event in Westwood, California. The floor-length strapless dress had a high slit on one side and a long train also covered in purple sequins. Hudson wore a matching sheer veil that draped over the train, creating a seductive effect. She completed the look with sparkly Louboutin pumps.

If Hudson's outfit wasn't the perfect tribute to the late Franklin as is (she was famously a fan of sparkly dresses herself), the actress even paid tribute to the Queen of Soul in a touching Instagram post (opens in new tab).

Along with two black-and-white photos with Franklin, J-Hud wrote This is from when I first met @arethafranklin in 2004. I opened her show that night! I'll never forget it. Thanks to @jeremylawsonphotography for capturing this life-changing moment. #arethafranklin #respectmovie"

Named after Aretha Franklin's 1967 hit song, "Respect" follows Aretha Franklin's life from her childhood to the height of her success (opens in new tab), according to The Hollywood Reporter (opens in a new tab), and according to Hudson, Franklin herself handpicked Hudson to portray her. The singer passed away in 2018 at the age of 76 (opens in new tab).

Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Mary J. Blige, and Titus Burgess are just a few of the other big names to appear in the biopic.
