Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were considering moving to New Zealand before the royal exit.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (open in new tab) knew early on that life in the UK would not work out in the long run.
Back in 2018, just months after their wedding, the Sussexes were considering moving to New Zealand, according to the country's governor general, Dame Patsy Reddy. In a recent interview, Reddy revealed that when Harry and Meghan (open in new tab) met during their royal tour of Australia and New Zealand, he asked her about the possibility of emigrating.
"When we sat down and had a drink, they said they could imagine living in a place like this and wondered if we thought it was theoretically possible," she told the Associated Press (opens in new tab). We replied, "Of course, we're fine." There are lots of opportunities to live in New Zealand, but that would be something they would have to look for."
Reddy told the Associated Press that Harry and Megan (opens in new tab) liked New Zealand's "access to the outdoors" and had a good experience when interacting with people there. Ultimately, however, according to Reddy, the discussions remained very informal and apparently did not lead the Sussexes to pursue emigration.
"They were trying to figure out how to raise a family.
