Footage was discovered of the royal family socializing at a 1991 G7 cocktail reception.
Rarely do we, the public, get a real inside look at the Royal Family (opens in new tab), but a video unearthed in 1991 provides just that.
Filmed at the G7 cocktail reception at Buckingham Palace, the video shows Queen Elizabeth (open in new tab), Prince Charles (open in new tab), and Princess Diana (open in new tab) drinking and mingling with other world leaders and VIPs. This is a rare (and deeply fascinating) opportunity to listen in on the private conversations the royals have during the event that the general public will never see.
The clip has gone viral since it was posted by @BenABrittain, with many royal reporters sharing and commenting along with the general royalty fans.
One of the things that stuck with many who watched the video was that several men, including former Prime Minister Ted Heath, spoke rudely to the Queen (opens in new tab) several times in the clip (one of the highlights of the clip was when the Queen repeatedly addressed Heath as (One of the highlights of the clip is when the Queen jokes to Heath that he is "expendable" after being cut off repeatedly).
The Times' Valentine Law writes (open in new tab), "What is remarkable here is: 1. how informed and articulate the Queen is. 2. how the men, including Heath, are willing to talk over the queen.
