Kate Middleton reportedly felt "isolated and abandoned" by what William's friends said about her mother.
Kate Middleton (opens in new tab) is the very epitome of royalty, but apparently, early in her relationship with Prince William (opens in new tab), not everyone thought she was royal-ready.
According to the Mirror (opens in new tab), Kate felt "isolated" at the time because palace officials and William's friends were making "snobbish jokes" about her mother, Carole Middleton (opens in new tab). In fact, back in 2007, the Mirror (opens in new tab) even reported that these comments "helped sink the relationship" with Will when the couple temporarily split up.
Apparently, the "jokes" were often about, among other things, Carroll's former career as a flight attendant.
"William's upper-class friends mocked Carole's former career by sneering and whispering 'door to manual' out of Kate's sight," the Mirror (opens in new tab) reported at the time (opens in new tab)." And courtiers argued that the brunette was not worthy of William because her mother did not speak with sufficient elegance."
[8"Frankly, the queen seems to like Kate's father, Michael, but courtiers feel her mother is a big question mark," one royal source told the Daily Mail in 2007 (opens in new tab). "She is pushy, rather twangy, and incredibly middle-class. She uses words like "Pleased to meet you," "toilet," and "pardon""

But even during the couple's breakup, royal sources revealed that William was always on good terms with his future mother-in-law.
"William got along well with Carole. He liked to lie on the sofa in their Berkshire home and enjoy normal life," a second source told the Mail.
"Let's just say that the Queen liked Kate and liked her father, but felt that Mrs. Middleton was not right and was unacceptable."
