Shailene Woodley discusses her long-standing "debilitating" health condition.
In an interview on the cover of The Hollywood Reporter (opens in new tab), Shailene Woodley spoke candidly about a "pretty debilitating" health condition she has had privately for years, feeling "isolated and lonely" and having to turn down work as a result of her illness. He recalled.
"I said no to many projects, not because I wanted to participate, but because I was physically unable to. And I definitely suffered more than I should have because I didn't take care of myself," Woodley said.
"The self-inflicted pressure of not wanting to be helped and not wanting to be taken care of created more and more physical anxiety throughout those years."Fortunately, Woodley's health is improving: "It's very exciting to be in the last stages [of the disease], but it's interesting that so many people pay attention to their choices, what they say, what they do, and how they look while experiencing something so physically dominant," she said.
"It drove me crazy for a while. I feel incredibly isolated and alone. It's really hard for people to empathize with the pain you're going through when it's a quiet, silent, invisible pain unless someone sees your arm is broken or your leg is broken."
Woodley also shared a lesson he learned during his illness: "I quickly learned the tremendously difficult life challenge of not caring what people thought of me. The more I paid attention to the noise surrounding me, the longer it took for my body and mind to heal. Because instead of focusing on myself, I was focusing on the image of myself through the lens of those around me."
