Britney Spears Says Father Should Be Charged with "Conservatorship Abuse"

At an emotional court hearing in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Britney Spears asked Judge Brenda Penny to remove her father, Jamie Spears, from her conservatorship and charge him with "conservatorship abuse," according to a report in The Guardian (in new tab opens), at the same hearing, Judge Penny ruled that Spears could choose her own attorney, and she would be represented by former federal prosecutor Matthew Rosengart.

"I'm here to remove my father and charge him with conservator abuse," Spears said by phone. She asked for an investigation and the issuance of a restraining order against her father, she added.

Spears gave new details about her treatment under the conservatorship, which has been in place since 2008, saying they took away her coffee and hair vitamins." Ma'am, it's not abuse, it's just fucking cruel," she said. 'Sorry for the language, but it's the truth.'

"They were always trying to make me feel like I was crazy, but I'm not," Spears added, repeating her earlier claim that she was forced to take psychiatric drugs. I think they tried to kill me," she said. She also told the judge that Jamie Spears confiscated her driver's license for eight months; at a previous hearing in June (open in new tab), Spears said she was prevented from having her IUD removed and forced to undergo surgery against her will.

"My father needs to have it removed today and I will be happy to have Jody (Montgomery, Spears' co-custodian) help me," Spears said.

"And Spears said.

Spears' new attorney, Rosengart, said he intends to file a motion to remove Jamie Spears as her daughter's conversation custodian. 'I really wonder why Mr. Spears is not voluntarily stepping down today. Today. Does anyone really believe that Mr. Spears' involvement in this case is in Ms. Spears' best interest? Rosengart said. 'If he loves his daughter, it is time for him to step aside so she can move on.'

Vivian Soreen, Jamie Spears' attorney, said her client would not voluntarily resign from conservatorship. 'Mr. Spears has been involved from day one. He is there for his daughter 24/7. ...... He loves his daughter and wants only the best for her," Soreen said, adding that "much of her character and memory is wrong."
