Kate Middleton, self-isolating following possible COVID-19 exposure
Kate Middleton (open in new tab) is self-isolating according to coronavirus guidelines.
According to a statement released Monday by Kensington Palace (open in new tab), the Duchess of Cambridge (open in new tab) recently had contact with someone who later tested positive for COVID-19.
"Last week, the Duchess of Cambridge was in contact with someone who subsequently tested positive for COVID-19," a palace spokesperson said in a statement released to the press and shared on Twitter by royal correspondents like Rebecca English of the Daily Mail. 'Her Royal Highness is not experiencing any symptoms but has been quarantined at home in accordance with all relevant government guidelines.'
English shared other details about Kate's exposure and current condition that appear to have been passed on by sources close to the royal family.
"I am told Kate was alerted on Friday afternoon and has begun quarantine," English tweeted. 'She undergoes regular lateral flow testing as part of the royal inspection regime and prior to engagement.'
As English also reported on Twitter (open in new tab), Kate is fully vaccinated and "it is not believed that the Duchess of Cambridge was 'pinged' by the NHS app."
Kate's husband, Prince William, did not need to be quarantined and is continuing with his scheduled events, including a tea party for NHS staff at Buckingham Palace, which Kate was originally scheduled to accompany.
