Princess Diana's Brother Shares Rare Childhood Photos on Her 60th Birthday
Princess Diana's brother Charles Spencer, Earl of Spencer, who turns 60 on Thursday, has released a rare childhood photo to mark the occasion. In the photo, published on the Althorpe House Instagram account, a young Diana stands in front of the Sandringham house where she was born on July 1, 1961. In the black-and-white photo, she is wearing a sweater, skirt, high socks, and loafers.
"Today is Princess Diana's 60th birthday," the caption reads.
"July 1, 1961, as Diana's parents always remembered it, was an exceptionally hot English summer day. She was born at Park House, the Queen's Sandringham estate in Norfolk. Park House is in the background of this family photo taken by Diana's father, the 8th Earl Spencer. To mark their mother's birthday, Prince Harry and Prince William unveiled a statue at Kensington Palace, the former residence of the late Princess Diana, on Thursday. The statue stands in the Sunken Garden, which was one of Princess Diana's favorite places. The Earl of Spencer attended the unveiling ceremony along with sisters Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes.
According to a People report (opens in new tab), Count Spencer appeared on Good Morning Britain last month and spoke about his sister's milestone birthday. 'I remember my father always talking about the day Diana was born [July 1, 1961]. 'It's so funny that now my sister, who is a little older than me, is turning 60. It will be an emotional day, but one that will be very nostalgic and a tribute to a sister, mother, etc., who was very much missed and loved.'
