Christina Aguilera speaks out in support of Britney Spears after her conservatorship testimony.
Christina Aguilera released a powerful open letter of support for Britney Spears on Twitter on Monday. Spears told the court that the conservatorship prohibited her from removing her IUD and prevented her from having another child, while forcing her to work and take the mood stabilizer lithium. I just want my life back," she said."
Aguilera, who co-starred with Spears in "The Mickey Mouse Club" in the 1990s, wrote on Twitter (opens in new tab), "I've been thinking about Britney and everything she's going through the last few days." Sharing a photo of herself and Spears' childhood, she continued, "I've been thinking about her." It is unforgivable that a woman and a human being who wants to control her own destiny may not be allowed to live as she wishes."
"To be silenced, ignored, bullied, or denied support by those closest to you is the most draining, devastating, and demeaning thing imaginable. The detrimental mental and emotional damage this does to the human spirit is not to be taken lightly," Aguilera wrote. Every woman must have the right to her own body, her own reproductive system, her own privacy, her own space, her own healing, her own happiness."
"I am not behind the closed doors of this very layered, personal yet public conversation, but what I can do is sincerely share what I have heard, read, and seen in the media," she added.
"This belief and desperation for freedom makes me think that this person I once knew lived without compassion or decency from those who ruled.
"For a woman who has worked under conditions and pressures that most people can't imagine, I promise you she deserves as much freedom as possible to live her happiest life," Aguilera concluded. 'My heart goes out to Britney. She deserves true love and support from all over the world."
