Jamie Lynn Discusses Britney Spears' Custody Battle
Jamie Lynn Spears has broken her public silence about her sister, revealing that she is by Britney's side during her fight to escape her father Jamie Spears' 13-year conservatorship (opens in new tab).
Jamie Lynn, 30, took to her Instagram Stories on Monday and spoke candidly to the camera. 'It felt like it wasn't my place or the right thing to do until my sister could speak for herself and say what she felt she needed to say publicly. But now that my sister has spoken up so clearly and said what she needed to say, I feel like I can follow her lead and say what I feel I need to say," she prefaced her message.
Britney spoke out last week about her "abusive" conservatorship (open in new tab), detailing in open court the trauma she has endured, including not being allowed to remove her IUD and being forced to take a drug called lithium. The pop star wants the conservatorship to end and made it clear that her family (open in new tab) is at fault. 'Honestly, I want to sue my family,' she said. 'I want them to hear what they did to me. I've been told I'm not allowed to expose the people who did this to me"
.
After the hearing, Jamie Lynn received a lot of #FreeBritney activists blasting the Zoey 101 star for not publicly condemning her father earlier and for not being more vocal about Britney's ongoing suffering (opens in new tab).
Jamie Lynn seemed to hit back at her detractors, referring to both of Britney's comments and clarifying that she has only "adored" and supported her sister as much as she could over the years. She even mentioned that she had previously privately encouraged Britney to change lawyers.
"Maybe I wasn't as publicly supportive of the hashtag as the public would have liked. But I can assure you that I have supported my sister long before there was a hashtag, and I will always support her," Jamie Lynn wrote emotionally. 'Because she knows I love and support my sister. Because she knows that I love and support my sister. I am not family. I'm speaking for myself. I am very proud of her for using her own voice. I'm proud of her for asking for new counseling, like I told her years ago."
She added, "Whether she wants to flee to the rainforest and have hundreds of millions of children in the middle of nowhere or whether she wants to come back and rule the world like she has done so many times before is none of my business. Either way, I have nothing to gain and everything to lose. I am merely her sister whose only concern is her happiness."
"I love my sister, always have, always will, as long as she is happy. So let's keep praying. That is all."
