Kevin Federline Supports Ending Custody of Britney Spears If It Will Benefit His Sons

Kevin Federline is supporting his ex-wife Britney Spears (opens in new tab).

Earlier this week, the 39-year-old pop star gave shocking testimony (opens in new tab) about her 13-year conservatorship, in which she said that the conservatorship is abusive, that those in charge are trying to stop her from having an IUD even though she has expressed a desire to have more children, and that she has stopped her from removing it, and that she was not informed by her attorney that she had the right to request termination of the conservatorship.

Spears' ex-husband, Federline (who was married to the singer from 2004 to 2007 and shared two sons, Sean (15) and Jayden (14) (opens in new tab)), has said that his divorce attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan (opens in new tab) Weighed in on the situation in a statement shared through.

"Whatever is best for [Spears], Kevin is supporting her to do it," Kaplan explained to ET Online (opens in new tab). 'It doesn't matter how positive the conservatorship has been if it's having a negative or detrimental effect on her mental state. So he supports providing the best possible environment for her to live and for the children to visit with their mother."

And as for the well-being of his sons, Federline says that the Spears' happiness (open in new tab) is in their best interest.

"Kevin feels that it is best for his children that their mother is happy and healthy," Kaplan added.

"And if she can do that without a conservator, that would be wonderful."

According to Kaplan, Federline has not been involved in Spears' conservatorship proceedings for years and has "tried to stay out of it," but his client "hopes everything works out." Ultimately, Federline's attorney says his and Spears' children are his top priority.

"He wants her to be a happy person. Because that will make her a happy mother. 'A person under pressure may not be able to make the same decisions that she would if left entirely to her free will. Kevin is willing to dissolve the conservatorship if she can handle it without putting herself or her children at risk."
