Prince William reportedly told Prince Harry about Meghan Markle's "intentions"

[opens in new tab] In an excerpt from his book "Battle of the Brothers" (opens in new tab), serialized in The Times of London, royal historian and consultant to The Crown, Robert Lacey, wrote that William had "an agenda" for Meghan Markle. He writes that he and Harry shared the belief that there was a The result, Lacy writes, was sibling rivalry, William was "deeply hurt" and Harry was "equally enraged," and Harry and Meghan ultimately went on to leave the royal family, (opens in new tab), and William behind.

Lacey writes that when William was told of Meghan's alleged "bullying" of royal staff - which the Sussex royal family vehemently denies, calling it a "smear campaign" - he "went straight on the phone with Harry, and when Harry became incensed and vehement in defense of his wife, his brother persisted." Harry hung up the phone angrily. Harry got angry and hung up, so William went to talk to him privately."

During the ensuing confrontation, William wrote, "Princess Meghan is following an agenda-"agenda" is the word [William] used for his friend. Kate was wary of her from the beginning, he said. Harry was "fiercely combative" in his defense of Meghan, and as a result, William decided that "in the end, the British royal family and all the age-old traditions, styles, and values it represents-the mission of the monarchy-must be more important to William than his brother," Lacey writes

Lacey wrote, "The monarch's mission was to be the most important of all.

Lacey makes it clear that "only William and Harry could know what they said to each other, and they kept respectful silence about it." However, their household was soon divided, and things were never quite back to normal between the brothers. Lacey writes: "Harry and Meghan seem to have visibly left after the dustup." He adds: William also felt a strong need to remove Meghan and her destructive "agenda" from the running of the British monarchy.

Harry and Meghan claim that Meghan was so ostracized and isolated from the life of the British monarchy that she became so deeply depressed that she considered suicide. When she and Harry sought help from the royal family, as Princess Diana, who was married to Prince Charles, did (opens in new tab), the Sussexes say they were turned away, just as Princess Diana had been.

"I gave up my career and my life. Because I love him. Our plan was to do this forever," Meghan told Oprah about her move to England. But when she began to contemplate suicide, she sought help. 'They told me that would not be good for the institution. I went to the most senior people to ask for help. But they said, 'But you are not an employee of this institution and we cannot protect you. This was not a choice, but an email asking for help, specifically saying, 'I am concerned about my mental welfare. Nothing was done."
