Meghan Markle's Thoughts on Princess Diana in Her Own Book: "We Need Them"

Meghan Markle (opens in new tab) talks about her new best-selling picture book, The Bench (opens in new tab).

On Sunday (which was also Father's Day (opens in new tab)), NPR's (opens in new tab) Weekend Edition (opens in new tab) aired a new interview with the Duchess of Sussex.

In a joint interview with the book's illustrator, Christian Robinson (opens in new tab), Meghan said that the book was her actual gift to Prince Harry (opens in new tab) for Father's Day 2019 (a bench with a plaque with a poem she wrote) She revealed some inside information about the book, including the fact that it was inspired by the book and that the pages were studded with Easter egg-style references for fans to find.

"There are all kinds of Easter eggs and nuggets hidden in the book," Megan explained (Hello! (opens in new tab) per)." When people start digging, there are plenty."

One of the sweetest moments of the interview came when Megan revealed that she had asked Robinson to include a sketch of her late mother-in-law Princess Diana's favorite flower (opens in new tab), the forget-me-not, not just once but throughout the book.

"I think you'll find sweet little moments tucked in there, from my favorite flower to my husband's mother's favorite flower, the forget-me-not. There are so many special details and love put into that book."

And if Princess Meghan is going to dig through the book to find an Easter egg she hasn't specifically called for yet, she may have left clues as to what to look for.

"I needed my daughters in there," Princess Meghan said during the interview, a reference to other important women in her life, such as her mother Doria Ragland (opens in new tab) and newborn daughter Lilibet Diana (opens in new tab) may indicate that there are.
