Prince Harry reportedly texted Kate Middleton, not Prince William, at the time of Lilibet's birth.

According to royal sources, Kate Middleton (opens in new tab) is considered a "bridge" between Prince William and Prince Harry.

This has apparently been the case for some time, but when Harry and his wife Meghan Markle (opens in new tab) had a daughter, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor (opens in new tab), earlier this month, and Harry emailed his sister-in-law instead of telling his brother directly. Emphasis added.

According to The Mail on Sunday, a palace official said that Harry's email to Kate was to "cement her role as a bridge to her brother."

After news of Lili's birth (open in new tab) became public, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shared a post on their official Instagram account congratulating the Sussex couple on their newest family member.

"We are all delighted with the happy news of Lili's arrival," Will and Kate wrote on Instagram, along with a black and white photo of Harry and Meghan posing with their son Archie."

"Congratulations Harry, Meghan, and Archie!
