Princess Diana changed one dress for a very nice reason!
Princess Diana's wardrobe was one of the most scrutinized in the world, but the royal often chose her outfits for other (very cute) reasons, paying little attention to the opinions of the press. Princess Diana's wardrobe is on display in the new exhibition "Royal Style in the Making" (opens in new tab) at Kensington Palace (opens in new tab), curator Matthew Storey to Us Weekly (opens in new tab), He shared some sweet insight into Princess Diana's fashion choices.
According to Storey, featured in the exhibition are sketches of Diana's "favorite" dresses. It is "a blue day dress with a bright floral pattern. It was one of the princess's favorite dresses, a blue dress with bright flowers on it. She wore it over and over again. The press said, 'Stop wearing it. Stop wearing it,' to the point where the press would say, 'Stop wearing it.'"
[4But Diana thankfully didn't listen. She knew that children would really respond to the dress. Children love bright colors. So she often wore this dress when she went to visit children, especially sick children," he said.
In the sketch above, the dress is paired with a statement hat, but Diana did not like that accessory. 'The sketch shows this wide-brimmed hat, but Diana would never try to match it. She said, 'I can't carry a child in a hat,'" Story said.
"For me, that unlocked my understanding of Diana's wardrobe," the curator added. She chose her styles with the people who would see her and the people she would meet in mind."
