Meghan Markle and Prince Harry consult with the Queen about naming their daughter Lilibet?

Because the media cannot allow Meghan and Harry's happy affair to go by without developing into criticism, the BBC claimed earlier this week that the Sussexes did not consult the Queen before naming their newborn daughter Lilibet, the monarch's family nickname. However, a spokesman for the Sussexes quashed the story, pointing out that the Queen was the first relative Harry called after Lilibet's arrival on June 4.

"The Duke spoke to the family before the announcement. In fact, his grandmother was the first family member he called," a spokesperson said, the Guardian reported (opens in new tab). 'During that conversation, the Duke expressed his wish to name his daughter Lilibet in honor of his grandmother. Had she not been cooperative, they would not have used that name."

As reported by The Guardian, BBC royal correspondent Johnny Dymond told BBC Radio 4's "Today" program that "a well-placed source at court" had "absolutely I assure you" (Dymond did not name the source). The Sussexes' lawyer then sent a letter to the BBC, claiming that the article was false and defamatory.

A statement on the Sussex couple's Archewell website (opens in new tab) explains the super-sweet inspiration behind the name Lilibet "Lili" Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. The name Lili is a nod to her great-grandmother, Her Majesty the Queen's nickname, Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, the Princess of Wales."
