Meghan Markle Dedicates New Book "Bench" to Prince Harry and Archie
Oh, no, this is lovely: Meghan Markle's new picture book, "The Bench" (opens in new tab), was published on June 8 and is a celebration of the father-son bond, so it makes perfect sense that it is dedicated to Prince Harry and Archie Harrison. And the dedication is truly lovely: as TODAY reports, "For the man and boy who makes my heart pump," the Duchess of Sussex wrote (opens in new tab).
Meghan's book, illustrated by Christian Robinson, was announced last month, and the Duchess explained the inspiration behind it in a press release (opens in new tab). 'The bench began with a poem I wrote for my husband on Father's Day, the month after Archie was born. 'That poem became this story. [This expression was especially important to me, and Christian and I worked closely together to portray this special bond through an inclusive lens. Megan continued, "This expression was especially important to me, and Christian and I worked closely to portray this special bond through an inclusive lens."
Robinson spoke to TODAY's Natalie Morales (open in new tab) about his collaboration with Megan on "Bench," explaining that he "identified with the manuscript and fell in love with the story." He added, "The starting point is a particular bench where Megan saw Harry and Archie bond, but it was important for both of us to make sure the story connected with as many readers as possible."
"What I'm really passionate about is telling an inclusive story that represents as many different kinds of children as possible," Robinson said.
