Ryan Reynolds opens up about mental health, inspired by his three daughters.

Ryan Reynolds (open in new tab) says becoming a parent has changed the way he approaches his mental health.

The 44-year-old actor has become increasingly open about his mental health and struggles with anxiety and credits his three daughters, James, 6, Inez, 4, and Betty, 1, for the change.

"With three daughters at home, part of my job as a parent is to model behavior, to model what it's like to be sad, what it's like to be anxious, what it's like to be angry. In a new interview with "Entertainment Tonight" (opens in new tab), Reynolds said, "The home I grew up in was very different from the home I grew up in. 'In the home I grew up in, that was not my model. And that is not to say that my parents were neglectful, but they come from different generations"

.

In May, the actor shared a candid post on Instagram about mental health.

"May is almost over. It is also Mental Health Awareness Month. One of the reasons I'm posting this so late is that I schedule myself so much that important things get left out." And one of the reasons I over-schedule is my lifelong friend, anxiety. And more importantly, to those of you who schedule too much, think too much, work too hard, worry too much, do too much of everything, like I do, please know that you are not alone. We don't talk about mental health enough, and we don't do enough to depersonalize talking about it. But, like this post, sooner or later..." I hope.

Several of Reynolds' well-known friends showed support for his post, including Hugh Jackman, with whom he maintains a fake ongoing rivalry.

"Mate - I'm sure your honesty is not only brave, but will help countless others who struggle with anxiety," Jackman wrote. Well done
