Kate Middleton wears Prince Philip's shoes as the "glue" that holds the royal family together.

It's only been a few months, but 2021 has been a tough year (opens in new tab) for the royal family. Following the departure of Prince Harry, the direct heir to the throne, along with his wife Meghan Markle and son Archie, Harry and Meghan's Oprah interview (opens in new tab) and the couple's comments (opens in new tab) that they feel trapped and suffocated as royalty, the family is rattled. Then in April 2021, Prince Philip, the royal patriarch and husband of the queen, died at age 99. According to royal experts, future Queen Kate Middleton, like her grandfather-in-law, the late Philip, is becoming the "glue" that holds the royal family together.

In an interview with Australia's "60 Minutes," Vanity Fair's royal reporter Katie Nicole said Kate has become the royal family's greatest asset since Harry and Meghan's departure. She said, "The royal family has realized that they have a really important key person, and they're putting her at the center. [Kate is] the glue, I think. 'Just as the Duke of Edinburgh was always helping to solve family problems. He was the patriarch of the family. I see Kate in that role. Trying to keep things together."

"We've seen a different side of the royal family [recently], and I think we're seeing that especially with William and Kate," Nicole continued.

"And I think that's incredibly important for the royal family. [Much of that is due to the realization that William and Kate should not be seen as being in an ivory tower. And a lot of that is thanks to William and Kate recognizing that they shouldn't be seen as being in an ivory tower," she added.
