Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had to fire an "irresponsible" night nurse
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were forced to fire an "irresponsible" night nurse after a nighttime "incident," royal correspondent Omid Scobie said in an interview for the British Channel 4 documentary A Very Royal Baby (opens in new tab): From Cradle to Crown, Scobie is the co-author, with Caroline Durand, of Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family. He is the co-author of the book. Meghan and Harry's difficulties in finding a reliable night nurse were first reported in Finding Freedom.
In the documentary, Scobie says: "Few people know the real back story. After Archie's arrival, Harry and Meghan wanted help establishing a sleep pattern. They hired a night nanny. For legal reasons, I cannot go into the details of hiring someone else, but one incident on the first night discouraged the couple from hiring a night nurse"
.
In their book, Scobie and Duran call the first night nurse "unprofessional" and "irresponsible." After this "incident," Harry and Meghan reportedly became so nervous that they woke up several times a night to check on Archie, even after they hired a more reassuring night nurse. Ultimately, the experience made the couple dissuade them from the idea of hiring a night nurse at all.
Initially, the couple thought they "didn't want a Mary Poppins-like character around their children," Scobie said in an interview for the documentary. However, since the incident with the night nurse, Harry and Meghan began hiring a daytime nanny for the first few months of Archie's life. [Meghan has published her first children's book and Harry is the chief impact officer of Better Up. Meghan's mother, Doria Ragland, will likely spend at least a few days with them and help them adjust, just as she did when Archie was born.
