British Royal Family Ignores Meghan and Harry's Wedding Anniversary
Yesterday was Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's third wedding anniversary, but you wouldn't have known it from the Royal Family's social media (opens in new tab). Not only did Princess Beatrice announce Wednesday that she and husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are expecting their first child (opens in new tab), the Royal Family shared many announcements, but Meghan and Harry's anniversary was ignored. This was in response to Prince Harry's appearance on Dax Shepard's "Armchair Expert" podcast, where he said he was caught in a cycle of "pain and suffering" (opens in new tab) within the royal family.
Harry's remarks in the podcast resulted in a deepening rift between the Sussex family and the senior royal family. Harry told Shepherd: "When it comes to parenting, if I have experienced any pain or suffering because of the pain or suffering that my father or my parents have suffered, I'm going to try to break that chain so that I don't inherit it."
About his father, Prince Charles, he added, " Suddenly I pieced it together, "OK, this is where he went to school, this is what happened, and I know this about his life.
Harry and Meghan's third wedding anniversary was a few days later, on May 19. The royal family decided to announce Princess Beatrice's pregnancy on the same day, stating: "The Queen has been informed and both families are delighted with the news." The timing may not be a coincidence - and as Page Six speculates, Meghan Markle announced her pregnancy to the royal family at Beatrice's sister Eugenie's wedding, which did not go over well. A source told (opens in new tab) Page Six (opens in new tab) that Beatrice's May 19 announcement "was a complete mangling of Harry and Meghan. After all, they stole Eugenie's thunder on Eugenie's big day, and it seems it hasn't been forgotten."
[10In addition to Beatrice's announcement, Kate and William made one of their own on May 19. Royal reporter Richard Palmer tweeted on May 19: "Kensington Palace has announced that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are due in Scotland for a week starting Friday as part of William's appointment as High Commissioner to the Church of Scotland."
Kate and William also shared a photo of Kate at the Victoria and Albert Museum on their official Instagram page. (Open in new tab) In short: The royal family was active yesterday, both on social media and in real life, but made no comment and paid no tribute to Meghan and Harry. Ouch.
