Meghan Markle and Prince Harry End Charity in the UK
In another clear sign that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry intend to make the United States their permanent home, the couple filed papers today (opens in new tab) to close their U.K.-based nonprofit. The nonprofit, which was called Sussex Royal until the couple stepped down from their senior royal positions in early 2020, changed its name last year to MWX Trading; it is not clear what MWX stands for, but perhaps it is Markle (Princess Meghan), Windsor (Prince Harry), and X would represent something. According to the document, the couple has formally requested that the charity close on May 4, 2021. This is yet another indication that Meghan and Harry intend to make California their permanent home and not return to the UK to continue their missionary work.
In an interview with Oprah this spring, Harry explained that he has grown to love California. 'The fact that there are outdoor spaces where I can go for walks with Archie, go for walks with my family, go for walks with my dog. We go hiking, we go to the beach, which is very close," he said, adding that he thinks their lifestyle is good for their son Archie. (Meghan is currently pregnant with their second child, a girl.)
While Meghan and Harry have made it clear that they plan to continue their focus on compassion, the first trailer for Harry's "The Me You Can't See" series, a collaboration with Oprah, was released this week
This week on Dax Shepard's "Armchair Expert" podcast (opens in new tab), Prince Harry said: "When I started therapy, it was like a bubble burst. You are in a privileged position, so stop complaining and thinking you want to do something different, do something more different. How are you going to do things differently, how are you going to make your mother proud, how are you going to use this platform to really affect change?
