Victoria Beckham shuts down "Spice World" sequel rumors
Seemingly thrilling news broke this week for Spice Girls fans. The Sun, a British tabloid, reported that the Spice Girls are working on a sequel to their 1997 classic "Spice World," which will celebrate the film's 25th anniversary next year. The paper claims that Jeri Horner is spearheading the project, with Melanie "Mel B" Brown, Emma Bunton, and Melanie "Mel C" Chisholm. The Sun further claimed that the group is hoping that Victoria Beckham, who missed the 2019 reunion tour (open in new tab), might be tempted to return for the sequel.
"The girls are discussing how to celebrate the anniversary of the film and are actively considering making an ironic sequel," an unnamed "industry source" told the tabloid."
"The girls have reached out to screenwriters who are considering working on the project and are making tentative progress," an unnamed "industry insider" told the tabloid.
"It's still in the early stages, but they are talking to established names in the business, which proves they are serious about a comeback on the big screen," the source added.
Unfortunately, I'm about to shatter your dreams, as Posh Spice herself seems to have quashed the rumor on social media, as Metro reports (opens in new tab) that Victoria Beckham, "Does anyone have anything to say to me!" and shared the story with a crying and laughing emoji along with the caption, "I'm so sorry. Beckham has denied in the past that the Spice Girls are back, but if a Spice World sequel is indeed in the works, it is hard to imagine her not being in the loop.
Sorry, Spice World fans. Do you have a Gucci dress to wipe away my tears?
