Princess Eugenie promises Prince Philip that she will "take care of Grandma."
It has been a sad few days for the Royal Family (opens in new tab) following the death of the Queen's husband, Prince Philip (opens in new tab), at the age of 99. After a poignant statement on his death was shared around the world, in which the Duke of Edinburgh was described as Her Majesty the Queen's "beloved husband" (opens in new tab), individual members of the family have shared special tributes to him.
And now, following in the footsteps of Prince Philip's other grandchildren, Prince Harry (opens in new tab) and Prince William (opens in new tab), Princess Eugenie has also posted her own personal tribute in memory of her grandfather. Princess Eugenie expressed her condolences in the form of a letter to Philip, which she uploaded to Instagram.
Her memorial begins (opens in new tab) with words about how comforted she was to hear memories of Duke shared by the public and those who benefited from the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme: "Dear Grandpa, we all miss you It is. I am sure Grandpa would have been touched by the many compliments I have received over the past few days. He remembers sitting next to me at dinner, shaking my hand once, greeting me as I walked by, and remembering how much the DofE Award meant to him. ...... [I remember learning how to cook, how to draw, how to read a book. I remember laughing at your jokes and hearing about your epic life and service in the Navy. I also remember when we incinerated sausages and you came to our aid. I also remember your hands, your laughter, and your favorite beer."
She concluded her touching words by thanking Prince Philip for his devotion to the Queen throughout their 73 years of marriage. She continued, "I will remember you among my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Thank you for your dedication and love to all of us, especially to my grandmother.
It is clear that Eugenie and Philip shared a very close bond, which the princess reflected on recently when she decided to name her first child, a son, August Philip Hawk Brooksbank (opens in new tab).
In his tribute to Duke Philip, Prince Harry also noted the Duke's family barbecue (opens in new tab) and his sense of humor (describing the Duke as "a master barbecuer, legendary talker, and cheeky to the end"), a sentiment that Prince William shared this sentiment.
His funeral will take place this coming Saturday, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, only 30 guests are invited.
