Prince Harry Honors Life of Grandfather Prince Philip in New Statement
Prince Harry has commented on the passing of his beloved grandfather, His Royal Highness Prince Philip.
The Duke of Sussex released a statement this morning via the Archwell Communications team, reflecting on the fond memories he shared with his grandfather. Harry's statement came shortly after his brother Prince William also released a commemorative message honoring the Duke of Edinburgh, and his statement was shared via the Kensington Royal Family Instagram account.
"My grandfather was a man of service, honor and great humor. My grandfather was authentically himself, had a very sharp wit and could command attention in any room with his charm. He will be remembered as the longest reigning monarch's consort, a decorated soldier, a prince and a duke. He was a master barbecuer, a legendary jokester, and a cheeky fellow to the end."
Harry went on to say that his grandfather was "a rock" to his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and imagined how Philip would react after his grandfather's death.
"He was like a rock to Her Majesty the Queen, offering her unparalleled devotion by her side during their 73 years of marriage. 'So, Grandpa, thank you for your years of service, your devotion to Grandma, and for always being yourself. You will be sorely missed and remembered by the nation and the world." Megan, Archie, and I (and future great-grandchildren) will always hold you special in our hearts."
At the end of his message, Harry wrote, "Per Mare, Per Terram." Per Mare, Per Terram" is Latin used by the Royal Marines and means "By Sea, By Land."
BAZAAR.com was able to confirm that Harry has already arrived in England ahead of the Duke of Edinburgh's funeral (opens in new tab) this Saturday. The Duke of Sussex arrived with a negative COVID-19 test certificate and will be quarantined for five consecutive days and will undergo additional prophylactic testing before attending the funeral this weekend. Harry's wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, who is expecting her second child with Harry, has been advised to stay home (opens in new tab). She has not been given permission by her doctor to travel as the pandemic continues.
