Prince Harry arrives in England ahead of Prince Philip's funeral
Prince Harry visited the United Kingdom ahead of his grandfather Prince Philip's funeral (opens in new tab), which will take place on the 17th. He arrived in London (opens in new tab) on Sunday, two days after the Duke of Edinburgh died (opens in new tab) at age 99, People (opens in new tab) reports. Harry's return to the U.K. is the first since he and Meghan Markle announced they would step down as senior royals in January 2020.
A Buckingham Palace spokesman confirmed Saturday that Harry will attend Philip's funeral while Meghan, who is pregnant, will remain in the United States on the advice of her doctors. 'The Duke of Sussex will be in attendance. The Duchess of Sussex has been advised by her doctors not to travel. So the Duke will be attending," a spokesman said.
Harry left the Sussex couple's Montecito home on Saturday and landed at London's Heathrow airport on Sunday afternoon, Harrow (opens in new tab) reported (opens in new tab). They then traveled to Meghan and Harry's British home, Frogmore Cottage, where they will be sequestered until the funeral, People reports (opens in new tab). Harry is currently staying with Princess Eugenie, her husband Jack Brooksbank, and their new son August, who is living at Frogmore Cottage at the invitation of the Sussex couple. [As reported by the BBC, Harry must follow the UK's COVID-19 travel rules. Under these rules, anyone arriving in the UK must have a negative COVID-19 test in the three days prior to travel and undergo further testing on the second and eighth days after arrival.
While a 10-day quarantine is normally required for travelers, they are exempted for "compassionate reasons," such as "attending the funeral of a family member, close relative, or friend." As a result, Harry can attend Philip's funeral on Saturday.
