Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Won't Badmouth the Queen in Oprah Interview, Says Royal Biographer

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's (open in new tab) highly anticipated interview with Oprah Winfrey will air this Sunday night. However, the timing of the interview has drawn criticism from some circles due to Prince Philip's current health.

Philip, 99, was hospitalized in mid-February as a "precautionary measure." (opens in new tab) After spending several weeks in several hospitals, the Duke of Edinburgh underwent successful surgery (opens in new tab) this week for a chronic heart condition and is now recuperating at King Edward VII Hospital in London. As a result, there have been calls for the Sussex couple to postpone the broadcast of the interview, which many expect will upset the royal family. [Omid Scobie, co-author of Harry and Meghan's biography, Finding Freedom: (opens in new tab)Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family (opens in new tab), said in a recent Omid Scobie, co-author of Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family (opens in new tab), told Entertainment Tonight (opens in new tab) in a recent interview. 'They planned this interview before Prince Philip was hospitalized. But for Harry and Meghan, they have a great relationship with Philip and the Queen. Not long ago I heard Harry speak very warmly about his grandfather on the James Corden show.

As for speculation that Harry and Meghan will turn their backs on the royal family in the interview, Scobie says that is not the case and that while the monarchy has many problems, it is important to remember that the Sussexes have only love for the rest of the royal family.

"The idea that the public has that they are throwing the queen under the bus on national television is ...... couldn't be further from the truth," Scobie explained. 'This couple understands the difference between the institution of the monarchy and the family itself. And it's a family with certain individuals with whom they have a great relationship."

"The couple is a family with a great relationship with the monarchy,"

Scobie said.

Oprah With Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special (opens in new tab) airs this Sunday at 8 p.m. on CBS.
