Leonardo DiCaprio's Malibu home was filled with "Titanic" memorabilia.
I have just discovered my new favorite celebrity story: in the 90s, Leonardo DiCaprio's Malibu beach house was filled with Titanic memorabilia, according to interior designer and former Flipping Out star Megan Weaver. Appearing on David Yonteff's "Behind the Velvet Rope" podcast, Weaver, as reported by People (opens in new tab), said she stayed at the beach house when she worked for DiCaprio in the 90s and experienced the Titanic decor firsthand He said.
"When I was working for Leo, his mother - his mother was so sweet - let me stay at his beach house in Malibu for the weekend. I was dating someone who lived in Canada and was in a long-distance relationship, and he came to town and rented me the beach house," Weaver said. [I walked into the beach house without telling him where we were going, and everything was Titanic. Titanic towels, Titanic posters, Titanic everywhere. My boyfriend] looked at me and said, 'Is this Leo's house? Yes, it's Leo's house. So I was very surprised."
Sadly, Weaver said he doubted that DiCaprio himself was responsible for the Titanic-themed house. 'But at the time, it was ...... This was in the '90s, too. I don't think the movie was that old yet,' she noted. 'It wasn't my main home, and I hardly ever went there, so it was probably my mother who did it.'
Unfortunately, DiCaprio reportedly put his Malibu beach house on the market for $10.95 million in 2016, Forbes (opens in new tab) reports. But there is still hope: The Los Angeles Times (opens in new tab) reported in 2017 that he rented it for $25,000 a month after failing to secure a buyer (opens in new tab). Leonardo, a humble plea: don't sell your beach house. Soothe yourself in the ocean and dry off with a Titanic towel. Sleep under the Titanic poster gallery every night. Titanic is forever, Leo! Titanic is forever
