Chrissy Teigen says she is a "better person" after "unimaginable" pregnancy loss.
Appearing on Monday's "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," Chrissy Teigen spoke candidly about losing her son Jack (opens in new tab) in the "unimaginable" way last September in the middle of her pregnancy. Teigen talked about the deep pain of losing Jack, her third child with husband John Legend, and at the same time shared the sweet way her children Luna and Miles remember their brother. As reported by People (opens in new tab), she reflected on the "transformative" effects of the loss, Grief led her to therapy and sobriety and "really saved me," she told DeGeneres.
When DeGeneres called Teigen "super brave" for sharing the hospital photo (opens in new tab) after the loss of Legend and her son, Teigen responded And, of course, everything was a blur," she replied. She added, "Looking back on it now, I'm still in therapy about it and still coming to terms with it."
"I have maternity clothes," Teigen said, "and some things I bought for the eighth and ninth month."
"So it's hard just because he would have been born this week, so you look at those things and you have these constant memories," she said.
Teigen noted that she "grew up in a family that was very open about loss," and that "it was really transformative for me and in a way really saved me.
"It's a beautiful thing," she continued, "to see the kids talk about him. We would go to the beach or something and they would say, 'Baby Jack is with us now,' do you think he's on cloud nine? He is so beautiful and so sweet."
"You would never imagine it happening to you. I think that was the crazy part for me. I said, 'I've heard other people's stories. This is not going to happen to me. ' So when it does happen, it's very shocking. ' And then I think about the people who go through it in silence, and I get really sad for them."
"You really get this incredible empathy. 'And I really think that somehow, somehow I'm a better person now. And I have the best support system."
