Halle Berry reveals how she and her 7-year-old son confront sexist stereotypes.

Halle Berry is not afraid to confront sexist stereotypes head-on with her 7-year-old son.

Last weekend, actress Halle Berry spoke at Women Breaking Barriers: a virtual panel hosted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for the Sundance Film Festival. Zendaya, Robin Wright, Sia, and Andra Day were also present for this conversation.

"I have a seven-year-old son and I realized that raising him is my job. If we want to have a different future, that's where it starts," she told People (opens in new tab) about her son Maceo Martinez.

She went on to say that she is already aware of the implicit formation of her son's gender views. She said, "It got me thinking about the many conversations I've had with him since he turned five about the differences between boys and girls. [and] asking him to challenge where those ideas are coming from, whether he believes them or not, where he is unconsciously getting them from," Berry continued. 'You can tell that it's through those conversations that he grows as a deep thinker on the subject. He is determined not to just accept it. I keep challenging him all the time." So why is it "the color of a girl?" And so on."

Berry will make her U.S. directorial debut with "Bruised" at this year's Sundance Film Festival.
