Justin Timberlake Wants the Internet to Forget His Double Denim Moment with Britney Spears

Fashion moments are fleeting, but unfortunately for Justin Timberlake, Internet nostalgia is eternal.

In a songwriter roundtable for The Hollywood Reporter (open in new tab), the singer and Palmer star reluctantly recalled his infamous 2001 double denim red carpet moment with then-girlfriend and fellow pop star Britney Spears The two attended the American Music Awards together more than 20 years ago, with Spears in a strapless ball gown composed of denim and Timberlake in a matching denim suit, cowboy hat and gradient-style, early-orts-worthy sunglasses, a coordinated chambray ensemble.

"I confess, there may have been a time in the 90s when I could have skipped some of the public outfits, but the Internet will never be," Timberlake said during the roundtable. Musician John Legend, who was also at the roundtable, said, "Unforgettable denim denim denim denim!"

"Thanks, John," Timberlake responded to the jab.

"No, the Internet won't let me forget. So I'm good."

The two made quite a splash in 2002, but there seems to be no hard feelings on Spears' part about their split. The pop star, who often posts videos of herself choreographing dance moves to pop songs on her Instagram, still listens to her former lover's music regularly (open in new tab).
